Stephenie's Official Statement about Midnight Sun
News about the leaked draft of Midnight Sun rocked the Twilight fandom last week. Today, Stephenie Meyer has issued an official statement regarding the incident. Here is an excerpt:
This is sad news and a big blow to all of us fans who are excited to read Midnight Sun in its entirety.
But she didn't say outright that she won't EVER continue writing it. In the Playlist page, she just wrote that she doesn't know when she'll get back to it. Let's hope that Steph feels better and goes back to writing it soon, because I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that even in its unedited, "messy and flawed" form, Midnight Sun shines.

So where does this leave Midnight Sun? My first feeling was that there was no way to continue. Writing isn't like math; in math, two plus two always equals four no matter what your mood is like. With writing, the way you feel changes everything. If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely.
I'd rather my fans not read this version of Midnight Sun. It was only an incomplete draft; the writing is messy and flawed and full of mistakes. But how do I comment on this violation without driving more people to look for the illegal posting? It has taken me a while to decide how and if I could respond. But to end the confusion, I've decided to make the draft available here (at the end of this post). This way, my readers don't have to feel they have to make a sacrifice to stay honest. I hope this fragment gives you further insight into Edward's head and adds a new dimension to the Twilight story. That's what inspired me to write it in the first place.

Shoot.
Really. I'd like to shoot that mor*n who leaked the draft to the world. Why, oh why that monster did it, we don't know. And now we'll never know if we'll ever get to read the book at all. *sobs*
Ohmygosh. NOOO. Whoever did that leaking is one big loser! Gah. Let's just pray that Stephenie would still get back up and continue writing Edward's perspective. :)
I'm glad that Stephenie decided to continue writing the book, and I am not surprised that she opted to delay it. In her shoes I would do the same.
Until a few days ago I didn't even know that there was a copy that went as far as page 12. I downloaded the copy Stephenie shared to enjoy the preview and if the e-book of the full book ever comes out I will definitely download that, too. But as with all her other books, as a true fan I purchased them in both hard and soft copy. Having the e-book will not change that. For some reason reading is just better when you are holding a book in your hands rather than reading from a screen.
All the best to Stephenie Meyer.
screw that pathetic stupid idiot who posted it online and the fans who entertained it.
stephenie should write it for edward not for anyone else.
Well, I have a copy of the leaked draft. Never read it, 'coz I wanted to experience the true completed Midnight Sun.
Shame on the one who leaked it, shame on the people who patronized and read it, and finally, most importantly... shame on SM for stopping and refusing to continue indefinitely.
She was hurt. We get that. But she is an author. and she knows things like this unfortunately happens. Stop whining and be a professional.
Get over it. Finish it not for yourself, but for the fans who got you where you are today.
omg. i used my whole name. :)) that was kinda stupid. i got used to it.
gawd. is there any way to delete that? :)) i feel so.. ionno. :))
Hey TCP! The Lex and some of the other fansites are doing a campaign to support SM. Not sure if you have any plans but you can check out the link below for more details.

I already did option number 1 for my MySpace page.
*fingers crossed for midnight sun*
OME!
What did Midnight Sun do to that person that he/she leaked it to the whole wide world?!?
Man, if the Volturi were here...they have tracked her down. Dammit! Curse that leaker! Aaaah! :((
BEA: Your post (with your full name) has been deleted. Post mo na lang ulit. :)
I agree with mrs. cullen, a leaked draft doesnt render the right to whine. Anyone in the spotlight has this chance that their work will become illegally available, what should be done is to rise above it and keep going, not shrink back and wallow in despair.
honestly, every writer asks somebody to read her/his works as proof read of some sort right? ive read on SM's page months ago about her feelings towards midnight sun, she felt hurt but i think she has has her share... she should have been really careful on whom she would give copies, also, her agents or anybody that controls publishing etc. should have done something once the copy started to leak all over the net. there are several similar cases already but there are those who are able to control the situation, having stopped the distribution and hold the leaked copies. SM should also understand that jealousy and envy is part of human nature, she is a freakin' housewife for goodness sakes and all of a sudden she became famous and all... there will be definitely people who will try to injure her one way or another...
I do hope SM finishes and publishes midnight sun. I've read the 1st chapter, and I liked it.
