News Round-Up: 13 August 2010

Happy Friday the 13th everyone!

So this week was the 2010 Teen's Choice Awards, and we all knew that the Twilight Saga was nominated in a lot of categories. But, who expected Taylor Lautner to beat Robert Pattinson for two titles? Taylor walked home with the surfboards for Choice Male Hottie, which Rob won last year, and Choice Movie Actor: Fantasy. (He was up against his Twilight costar for both.) He also won Choice Red Carpet Fashion Icon: Male and the Invisalign-sponsored Choice Smile. Well, at least we know he completely deserves the last one--if there's one common comment about Taylor, it's about how white and pretty his teeth are.

Robert didn't go home empty-handed, of course. He took home the board for Choice Movie Actor: Drama for his role in Remember Me. In his acceptance speech, Rob mentioned that, "...it's great to win something outside of Twilight." We hope this is the beginning of good things for his future.

The night was capped off by another big Twilight win, but as the series won so many, they made the entire cast that was present go up on stage to accept it collectively. Among the awards we'd like to note: Rachelle Lefevre won for Best Villain for New Moon. (Rachelle tweeted her thanks to the fans after.) And Robsten won for Choice Movie: Chemistry and Choice Movie: Liplock. Kristen Stewart also won for Choice Movie Actress: Fantasy. Unfortunately, she wasn't in attendance for the ceremony due to her filming On the Road. I read that they said the show would have been arranged differently had KStew been there.

Let's not forget to mention that we won Most Fanatic Fans! I wonder if that means there were a lot of Twilight fans that voted for themselves or if other fans voted us because we're the craziest of the list? Lol.

Here's the list of Twilight Teen Choice wins c/o TVbythenumbers.com. For pictures and videos (mostly of Rob), check out RobPattzNews. Congratulations to everyone!

More Twilight on the net...

When CdL tweeted this and said our collector hearts would be pumping, she was right. Well, at least I know mine was. So, if you've ever thought that the Twilight books would look good in WHITE, you're in luck. TheBookseller.com has reported that paperback versions of the saga will be republished with white covers by Christmas. The bad news? They'll be limited edition and available only in the UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia and India. Boooo.

Twilight Beauty cosmetics will soon have new products in the form of... nail polish. Called Nox, after the Roman goddess of night, the line of nail polish comes in 12 colors. As these are supposedly a tribute to the Cullens, each bottle is decorated on the front by the Cullen crest.
Locally, Twilight Beauty is available in American Rag stores in Festival Mall and Robinsons Place Manila. You may probably ask them if or when the nail polish will be available in their stores.

Finally, in the last round-up I asked how you would envision Bella's wedding dress? InStyle did something better and put up a gallery filled with details for Edward and Bella's wedding! They asked expert designers for their best interpretations of Bella's engagement ring (which actually looks prettier and more vintage than the oval one from the movie), bouquet, invitations, accessories, even venue! What's great is they took passages from the Breaking Dawn book about each item so you can see how they tried to make it match canon. Check out the feature and see if you agree with their take on Alice and Rosalie's bridesmaid dresses and Reem Acra's drawing of Bella's wedding gown according to how Bella herself described it.

Edit: Wouldn't you know it? After I posted the round-up, gracielou105 on Twitter reminded us that today is also Bella and Edward's wedding anniversary! Looks like the InStyle feature wasn't so random after all. :)

So make sure to secure a copy at once, since we are assuming that only limited copies of the Special Edition will be available locally. Also let us know at twilightcoven(at)gmail(dot)com if you have other sightings of the special ed.

I'm posting this at the heels of the fourth article of Twilight Gay so be sure to scroll down and read that post (and make sure you're not eating, you might choke LOL).

Reuters posted an interview with Catherine Hardwicke on her projects after making the Twilight film and how it is collaborating mostly with teens in her projects.

With Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince coming in theaters this week, it comes as no surprise that we again have Twilight vs. Harry Potter article in our midst. Check out the article in Wall Street Journal and share us your thoughts. On the same note, check out Daniel Radcliffe and Tom Felton's thoughts on Robert Pattinson's success after working together in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

MovieSet has a special feature on the Vancouver set used for the New Moon film. You can check out the first installment of their 3-part feature here.

Justin Chon relayed in an interview with Naturally Savvy regarding his experience in filming Twilight and his environmentally-conscious lifestyle.

The Twilight Saga is also nominated for a Kids' Choice Award in the Favorite Book category, competing against the Harry Potter series, and The Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Amazon has now listed the Breaking Dawn: Special Edition, to be released on 14 July 2009 in the U.S. However, no list of new features have been indicated. We'll check this out with Hachette and let you guys know when we have more info.

Joss Whedon, of Buffy The Vampire Slayer fame (and one of my idols!), was interviewed by TV Week, and he was asked about the Twilight phenomenon.

TVWeek: Vampires are big in pop culture right now. Have you seen “Twilight’?

Joss Whedon: I saw “Twilight.” And it’s—what can you say? It’s absolutely like crack. It strikes a tweener chord that’s just as loud as the apocalypse. You cannot deny the power of it. It just works. And I sort of like that... “Twilight” makes its own rules, as we all do. It takes what it wants and discards the rest but ultimately, it is kind of classical. They’re puffy-shirt vampires in a sense.

There is now more information about the music video that Stephenie conceptualized for the band Jack's Mannequin's upcoming single, The Resolution, from set reports in California by the LA Times and MTV.

Steph got her idea for the video from the lyrics of the song:  "I can hear the sound of your voice still ringing in my ear/ I'm going underground but you find me anywhere I fear."  In the video, Andrew McMahon, lead singer for the band, is being pursued by a mermaid who would do anything to seduce him.  He tries to resist, and drives away from the ocean with his piano on his truckbed.  The mermaid is persistent, though, and she follows him across the desert and up the hillside as the water rises.  In the end, Andrew will not be able to resist, and he will abandon his piano and jump into the ocean.

Andrew revealed that the song was actually about him overcoming leukemia, but they chose Steph's concept based on the lyrics because the band thought it had a very strong visual impact because of the fantasy element.

Steph also said that even if she is credited as a co-director for the video, she is more of a Creative Consultant who is "making sure the vision looks right."  Most of the directorial duties are handled by a real director, Noble Jones.

Jack's Mannequin's Dark Blue is also in Steph's Breaking Dawn playlist.  The band was in talks for the Breaking Dawn Concert Series, but had problems reconciling their schedule with the tour.  Justin Furstenfeld of Blue October eventually joined Steph for the 4-city tour.

The Glass Passenger, which includes The Resolution, is due out on September 30 from Warner Bros. Records.

More information, pictures, and videos can be found in the set reports linked below.

The PopWatch blog over at Entertainment Weekly has a short review of the 1st Chapter of Midnight Sun. Chapter 1 may be downloaded from Stephenie Meyer's website. Although the authenticity of the "leak" has not yet been confirmed, we advice those who are sensitive to spoilers to skip reading the comments.)

Amazon.com also has an image of a new cover for the movie tie-in mass market paperback edition of Twilight.

They've posted a different cover before, one which shows the other members of the Cullen family, so we're not sure which one is really the final cover (unless the first one is for the trade paperback).
