The Guinness World Records 2010 has just cited the Twilight film as the "Highest-Grossing Movie By A Female Director". So congrats to Catherine Hardwicke and rest of the Twilight actors and staff!

So the VMAs has come and gone and we've gotten interesting New Moon stuff out of it, with the debut of the newest New Moon trailer and Death Cab for Cutie's "Meet Me on the Equinox". Here are more photos, videos, and interviews from the VMAs:

Ashley Greene elaborates more on the action scenes in the Eclipse film, making it more guy-friendly, in this article in MTV.

Sales of all Twilight Saga books are still going strong in the United States, and could only be expected to continue its positive run with the upcoming New Moon film. As USA Today reported, all four books of the saga are on the forefront of USA Today's Best-Selling list for the second quarter.

Reuters posted an interview with Catherine Hardwicke on her projects after making the Twilight film and how it is collaborating mostly with teens in her projects.

With Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince coming in theaters this week, it comes as no surprise that we again have Twilight vs. Harry Potter article in our midst. After seeing Cam Gigandet win Best Fight with Rob at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, we here at TCP are really starting to miss seeing Cam on the big screen. But it looks like he's going back to his blood-sucking ways in an upcoming movie adaptation of the comic book entitled Priest, which is "set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires and follows a warrior priest who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece." Cam will be playing one of the murderous band of vampires going up against Paul Bettany as the Priest. Will he be channeling a bit of James? We'll see. Catherine Hardwicke is set to direct a contemporary version of Hamlet starring Emile Hirsch. MTV, however, has a fun speculation ongoing for which roles the Twilight cast might be fit for if they ever join Hardwicke's cast. Once again, please note that this is just fun speculation on MTV's part.

Rob Pattinson says he wants to keep New Moon a surprise for himself but promises that from what he's seen of the dailies, the film should look "amazing".

Paramore's Hayley Williams told MTV that they are not the "Twilight House Band", and that they would like to see other artists contribute songs for the movies. Is this the last we'll hear of Paramore in connection to the Twilight Saga? I personally hope not.

A PREPOSTEROUSLY SUCCESSFUL franchise that was spawned by a coven of novels, Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" saga, with its very profitable 2008 motion picture adaptation, is trying to enthrall an audience beyond the ones which devoured the books so readily. This cross-pollination of target markets sometimes induces a multiple personality disorder in its ancillary merchandise, though not always negatively.

This is the case with "Twilight Director's Notebook: The Story of How We Made the Movie" (Little, Brown and Company, New York, 164 pages), authored by Catherine Hardwicke, whose fingerprints are far more evident on the “Twilight” movie than novelist Meyer’s. It was Hardwicke (who had directed the gritty coming-of-age tale “Thirteen” ) who had championed the “Twilight” movie’s cause from the very beginning.

“My challenge was to translate this to film,” she writes. “How to take Stephenie’s powerful emotions: delirious, obsessive, hypnotic, profound love and put that onscreen.” She is the perfect person to tell this tale. But are we supposed to listen to her?

The book’s rather on-the-nose subtitle says it all. With its intentional information overload, horror vacui design and glossy photos, “Notebook” is obviously intended for the “Twilight” saga’s young fanatics.

There is a very generous selection of photographs featuring the movie’s reluctant stars, Rob Pattinson, who plays vampiric dream boy Edward Cullen, and Kristen Stewart, the damsel Bella Swan, both in front and behind the cameras. There are snazzy full-color illustrations offering a fascinating evolution of makeup and costume design.

But what “Notebook” has a lot more of is Hardwicke. In page after page, readers will follow Hardwicke’s thought process as the movie takes shape, everything from inspiration and locations to camera work and stunt scenes. It’s surprisingly candid and comprehensive, giving readers a behind-the-scenes perspective that is truly unexpected. Perhaps the best one is the two-page spread annotated by Hardwicke’s assistant that talks about all the stuff in Hardwicke’s bags for location and their uses. A great example: “Gum. Easier than brushing.” Even the soundtrack gets discussed.

But while the kitchen-sink design is admittedly impressive, it also makes the book really hard to read. Aiming for an authentic scrapbook look, “Notebook’s” 10 designers not only has snapshot-style photographs crammed in the pages every which way, but the book uses a font that does look like "penmanship" but is hard on the eyes after the first five pages or so. It’s ironic that a book which has so many interesting things to read opts to be something meant to be looked at, more than to be read, like an acoustics-style ballad done up with effects-heavy guitars. It doesn’t quite all come together.

But its individual parts echo the movie in the sense that some of the information in “Notebook” is pedestrian (Taylor Laurent, who plays Jacob, wears a wig. Duh), while others are revelatory (They couldn’t shoot in the real-life Forks because it was too expensive), with the requisite photos to prove it. The diary traces the production from start to end, beginning with Hardwicke’s January 2007 purchase of a copy of “Twilight” to the various red carpet premieres in 2008. It’s a lot to take in, and one wishes for a larger-size volume to properly display all of it.

“Twilight” junkies will find many things to absorb in this book, though “Notebook” should be a good resource for film buffs, even if they’ll have to squint quite a bit. It is admittedly packed and gorgeous, but can induce migraines. On the title page is a memorable image: It is Hardwicke’s personal copy of the “Twilight” novel, hopelessly creased, repaired in parts with tape, abloom with Post-It notes. It’s a testament to the passion Hardwicke had for the novel and a poignant reminder that Hardwicke won’t be directing the next films.

In the meantime, “Twilight Director’s Notebook” makes for a bloody good souvenir.

Catherine Hardwicke posted a video thanking all of the people who supported the book, especially the Twilight fans. Congrats, Catherine! E! Online predicts the Rob and Kristen romance rumours are about to start again now that New Moon has started filming. Some Twilight cast members weigh in on the issue. Thanks to Mary Grace for the link.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Summit Entertainment is looking to cast Rob in a new film they are producing entitled Memoirs. The film "tells of two lovers whose newfound relationship is threatened as they struggle to deal with family tragedies."

This one made me teary-eyed. The U.S. Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) hosted an event with Peter Facinelli at the Ft. Lewis Post Exchange to celebrate the release of the Twilight DVD with U.S. soldiers and their families. To accommodate the thousands of fans who turned up to see him, he signed autographs, talked to people, shook every soldier's hand in the line, and took photos for 16.5 hours straight. @_@ The event was supposed to last only 2 hours, but Peter insisted on accommodating everyone to show his appreciation to the soldiers. NewMoonMovie.org reports that filming is now underway at the location for Jacob's house. In other filming news, the Eagle Pictures (Italian distributor) website is dispelling the rumours that the film will shoot on location at Montepulciano on May 25-30.

The Twilight Lexicon learned that Michael Welch (Mike Newton) will be appearing in an upcoming episode of C.S.I.

This is probably the most important news of the day: LaineyGossip.com has identified the actors that will make up Jacob's Wolf Pack in New Moon - Chaske Spencer (Sam Uley), Tyson Houseman (Quil Ateara), Alex Meraz (Paul), Kiowa Gordon (Embry Call), Bronson Pelletier (Jared), Tinsel Korey (Emily Young). Just when I thought the telenovela was over....

Variety reports that Summit Entertainment has greenlit Eclipse for production with a, get this, 30 JUNE 2010 release date. And we thought New Moon was in Production Express. The report also says that a director for Eclipse has yet to be chosen.

In relation to that, Entertainment Weekly says that Chris Weitz will definitely not direct Eclipse, as the production timelines for both New Moon and Eclipse will most likely overlap. Contrary to ancient reports, though, the two sequels will not be shot back-to-back, rather, Eclipse will begin production as New Moon goes into post-production. There is no official confirmation from Summit about this yet.

E! Online has an article about the New Moon logo and adds that their source inside Summit says that the movie will only be entitled "New Moon" and not "The Twilight Saga's New Moon" as MTV reported. They also mention the tidbit from OK! Magazine's 7 Secrets of New Moon about Paramore returning to perform a song for the sequel's soundtrack. However, Hayley Williams has commented via the band's official Livejournal that these reports are false.

Meanwhile, Nikki Finke of Deadline Hollywood Daily went and dug up the old issue of Catherine Hardwicke's departure from the franchise once again. Readers would remember that she was also the one who beat Summit Entertainment to announcing that Catherine will be replaced.

OK! Magazine caught up with 90210 star AnnaLynne McCord who is in talks to play Heidi in New Moon. "I am so disappointed but it doesn't look like it is going to happen with my schedule. But keep your fingers crossed for me. I hope that it still does!" Click here to read the full story.

Catherine Hardwicke has finally spoken out about why she didn't come on board what I fondly call the New Moon Express. The Twilight director tells MTV it's just exactly that -- because everything has to move really fast. "I just didn't think I could make a good movie under those circumstances," she said. She was reportedly in Paris promoting Twilight with Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart when Summit called to offer her a big paycheck to come back and direct New Moon. MTV also has an interview with 90210 cast member AnnaLynne McCord, who has been in the Twilight Saga radar recently because she is a strong consider for the role of Heidi in New Moon. A very interesting tidbit from the interview: she was supposed to play Rosalie in Twilight, but had commitments with the TV show Nip/Tuck and couldn't come out to Oregon to shoot. [Wow, that's surprising. AnnaLynne is actually closer to my idea of Rosalie in the book than Nikki. Shucks. -CdL]

Collider has a cool interview with Kellan Lutz from a Street Fighter game release party. He reveals that filming, at least for him, officially starts March 23 in Vancouver. Click here to watch the video.

2009 Academy Awards producer, Laurence Mark, spoke to E! Online about this year's show. He mentioned that while Twilight is not nominated for an award, the film will have a presence in the show on more than one occassion. The 2009 Academy Awards airs locally on the morning of February 23.

Krystyna from the Justin Chon Fansite sent us a link to a new interview of Justin with GlamTV here. Over at the Twilight Lexicon, they also discovered that Justin has his own online retail store, Attic Online, and that he's going to appear in an upcoming Harrison Ford film entitled Crossing Over.

The Twilight Saga is also nominated for a Kids' Choice Award in the Favorite Book category, competing against the Harry Potter series, and The Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Amazon has now listed the Breaking Dawn: Special Edition, to be released on 14 July 2009 in the U.S. However, no list of new features have been indicated. We'll check this out with Hachette and let you guys know when we have more info.

Joss Whedon, of Buffy The Vampire Slayer fame (and one of my idols!), was interviewed by TV Week, and he was asked about the Twilight phenomenon.

TVWeek: Vampires are big in pop culture right now. Have you seen “Twilight’?

Joss Whedon: I saw “Twilight.” And it’s—what can you say? It’s absolutely like crack. It strikes a tweener chord that’s just as loud as the apocalypse. You cannot deny the power of it. It just works. And I sort of like that... “Twilight” makes its own rules, as we all do. It takes what it wants and discards the rest but ultimately, it is kind of classical. They’re puffy-shirt vampires in a sense.

The Hollywood Reporter has a very revealing interview with Summit Entertainment bigwigs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger. The duo talked about how Twilight has changed the company, as well as more details about Summit and their projects. They also made clarifications about the Catherine Hardwicke issue. We also finally have confirmation that the budget for New Moon is bigger than Twilight's:

THR: Will "New Moon" stay in the same $38 million budget range?

Friedman: No. The next one will be higher than that. We believe that the film will naturally be more expensive. Sequels become more expensive, and we have more special effects.

Wachsberger: And locations. In the second movie there is a sequence in Italy.

THR: There is talk that because Edward is out of the picture for much of "New Moon," there will be elements of the second and third books combined into the second movie.

Wachsberger: No, but Edward is present for the movie.

The budget is bigger, but don't expect New Moon and the rest of the Twilight Saga to turn into mega-budget blockbusters just yet. Later in the interview, Rob Friedman said:

Friedman: Are we gonna be in the $100 million-plus production business? No.

Spoiler.tv got a hold of the casting call for New Moon here. The first thing I noticed was that Aro was missing from the list. Fortunately, Lana Veenker, who was one of the casting directors for Twilight, has just posted an update about New Moon on her blog, and she also answered my question:

"If a major role is not listed on the breakdown at all, this usually means that the role has been cast, is currently in negotiation or is only open to name actors, so the CDs (casting directors) are not seeking submissions from talent agents at this time."

[This really got me thinking... could this have anything to do with it? No, no, CdL. Don't get your hopes up too much...]

MTV gives us a list of what the Twilight cast will be working on this year. Looks like the busiest person on the cast is Cam Gigandet. [Mabs will be so happy.]  Ashley Greene talks further about Shrink and working with Kevin Spacey here.

Twilight is still earning some money and is set to jump over Madagascar 2 to the #7 spot in 2008's list of Highest Grossing Films.

I just discovered an interesting site called The-Numbers.com - or at least it's interesting to movie buffs like me. Some of you may know about this already, but let me share it, nonetheless, to those who don't. The site provides Box Office numbers and DVD sales figures, but the neat thing you can do on their site that I really like is to check the total Box Office Earnings of your favorite actors based on their movies' earnings. For example, here's the worldwide box office earnings of all of Robert Pattinson's movies to date ($2.1 BILLION. wow.) Here's Kristen Stewart's chart ($688.9 MILLION only, despite having more movies than Rob. Harry Potter is a big factor.)   You can access the website here.   Have some numerical fun! :)

HisGoldenEyes.com has a report on something rather disturbing about the Twilight Perfume which was recently released by Hot Topic. Apparently, the apple-shaped bottle is almost identical to the bottle design of the Nina perfume by Nina Ricci. Perez Hilton and Trendhunter.com also made that observation. Today, in the New Moon Telenovela: MTV is reporting that Summit has scheduled New Moon for a November 20, 2009 release date. This puts the sequel head to head with Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes flick, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. The article also implies that someone in Summit is superstitious -- they want the film to be released at almost the same time, same place, and hopefully with the same results as Twilight or better. [It seems the superstition might have included the production budget (We can't have too big a budget than the first film, it's bad luck!) :p ] Meanwhile, Kristen and Rob say that making the sequel is gonna be more difficult, StephenieMeyer.com debuts a New Moon Movie page, and People.com want us to choose who should play Jacob: Taylor or Michael Copon.

Catherine Hardwicke spoke to MTV about the Twilight DVD which is due to be released next year. She revealed details about the commentaries, deleted scenes, bloopers, montages, and other exciting stuff that she wants to include. She also talked about her recording session with Rob and Kristen for the commentaries.

In today's installment of the New Moon Telenovela: Celebuzz is reporting that Taylor Lautner is definitely out, and now NewMoonMovie.org is reporting that Michael Copon (Scorpion King, One Tree Hill) might just have gotten that role. Also, Entertainment Weekly seems fairly certain that Chris Weitz is indeed about to be hired as the new pilot of the New Moon Express. [Please take all of these stories with a grain of good quality salt mined from First Beach, after all, Summit hasn't released an official statement, and one of these sites is reporting that the new actor that will take on the Jacob role should have good chemistry with Kristen Bell (NOTE THE SARCASM). Just sayin'.]
