David Slade to direct "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse"

From Summit Entertainment's Official Website:

Los Angeles, CA April 22, 2009 — Summit Entertainment announced today that David Slade has been hired to direct THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE from a screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, the third film in the studio's TWILIGHT film franchise based on the Stephenie Meyer's blockbuster book series, will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. The announcement was made by Erik Feig, Summit's President of Production.

Meyer stated, "I am thrilled that David Slade will be directing ECLIPSE. He's a visionary filmmaker who has so much to offer this franchise. From the beginning, we've been blessed with wonderful directorial talent for the Twilight Saga, and I'm so happy that ECLIPSE will be carrying on with that tradition."

Feig said, "Stephenie Meyer's ECLIPSE is a muscular, rich, vivid book and we at Summit looked long and hard for a director who could do it justice. We believe we have found that talent in David Slade, a director who has been able to create complex, visually arresting worlds. We cannot wait to see the ECLIPSE he brings to life and brings to the fans eagerly awaiting its arrival in summer of 2010."

Filmmaker Slade came to prominence as a director for his work on 2006's engrossing film HARD CANDY starring Academy Award® Nominated actress Ellen Page as well as directing 2007's genre hit 30 DAYS OF NIGHT which opened to number one at the box office its first weekend of release.

In ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

try watching trailers of his films (Hard Candy and 30 days of night) and if eclipse is to be some sort of a thriller, i can't wait for david slade to have his take on it! :D he's good... he may be a newcomer, but he has big potential..

Mack: I agree. He's actually an interesting choice... more interesting than Chris Weitz was. Must try and watch his previous films. Also, if he'll put his music video spin to Eclipse, it might look good, although I'm sure it'll be visually different from Twilight and New Moon.

David Slade is indeed an interesting choice. I agree with Mack on his ability to amp up the suspense/thrill level of Eclipse. While this is not really my favorite book in the series (New Moon is), I'm looking forward to how David will translate it. On a continuity standpoint, I think he should start talking to Chris Weitz to work out some pre-production details.

Eclipse is my fave twilight saga novel so I think I should watch the scenes very clearly. really excited for that. I'm definitely betting on David Slade for Eclipse. =)
Now, who's for Breaking Dawn? :D we will find out that one soon!

@Romeo: eclipse isn't my favorite book either (new moon is my favorite).

well i think he could make look the new born vamps like the one in the 30 days of night.

you guys should see Hard Candy, it was sick crazy. =D nice choice of director for eclipse.

Eclipse happens to be my favorite of the four. :P So, I'm gonna be watching you, Slade! Bwahahahha! *Cackles like a crazy fangirl*

Seriously, 30 Days of Night was good. Dark, but that's to be expected considering the title. But the vampires there were very... animalistic. Should be interesting how he'll interpret Meyer's vamps, especially the god-like, ethereal Cullens.

wow....this week has been full of great news about our twi-verse. David Slade directing Eclipse is something to look forward to. I agree with CdL, he is far more interesting than Chris Weitz. Anyhoo, they're both good directors with different visions, they'll do justice to books 2 and 3or else....hehehe

"Eclipse" is my favorite, too, among the four books. I am really excited to see how it would look on the big screen.
