News Round-Up: 11 September 2009

A preview of Death Cab for Cutie's Meet me on Equinox has been posted in the New Moon Soundtrack site. Let us know what you think so far! The band also reveals to MTV what the music video would look like and the inspiration for the song.

Stephenie Meyer's website posted a warning regarding ads offering Midnight Sun as a contest prize, which are definitely not true.

Jamie Campbell Bower shares with MTV his upcoming projects (especially on the seventh installment of Harry Potter), his accent while playing Caius, and his New Moon experiences.

Peter Facinelli reveals his favorite line in the New Moon film in this interview with MTV.

Ashley Greene talks to MTV about filming so far in Eclipse, especially that of the vampire battle.

Get to know more about Jackson Rathbone and his band in this feature in The Vancouver Sun.

Click here to know more about Chaske Spencer's preparation to film Eclipse, along with the training he did (trust me, it's a good read! LOL - mabelletaka) prior and during the New Moon film. (c/o Radar Online)

Reelz Channel features a video tour of the locations used for the Twilight film.

The new New Moon trailer is coming in a few days and you can download this widget from MTV for your trailer countdown!

News Round-Up: November 7

The 2nd Entertainment Weekly issue featuring Twilight is now out in US newsstands. It has three collectible covers featuring Rob, Kristen, and Rob/Kristen. Everglow has posted scans here. (Cover Scan Source: Everglow) [Personal Comment: Wow, Rob looks completely different in this photoshoot. Thank goodness it doesn't fail like the first EW cover!]

BellaSugar.com interviewed Twilight Make-Up Artist Jeanne Van Phue, and she revealed the specific cosmetics she used to create Kristen Stewart's look as Bella. Click here to read the feature.

Film School Rejects have posted their review of the Soundtrack here.

The LA Times has published part 2 of their interview with Catherine Hardwicke in today's edition of their Twilight Countdown. One of the many interesting things that Catherine talked about is the real story behind Rob and his involvement in the creation of Bella's Lullaby. She was also asked about her collaboration with Nikki Reed, and in her answer, she mentioned Nikki playing "Rosalie Cullen" in Twilight. No, this doesn't seem to be a mistake. We've read the production notes for the film from Summit, and all throughout, Rosalie and Jasper were referred to as Rosalie and Jasper Cullen. In the Teen Vogue Cast Interview, Jackson Rathbone also referred to his character as Jasper Cullen. So this seems to be a change that the writers made, most likely to make things simpler for the people who haven't read Twilight and are being introduced to the Saga for the first time via the movie. We will discuss the production notes in the next episode of Danag: The Filipino Twilight Podcast. Meanwhile, click here to read the full interview with Catherine.

InStyle Magazine is on a roll! They have a bunch of new articles about the film: Before They Were Vampires (please add werewolf, InStyle. ;) ), Twilight's Robert Pattinson Causes a Riot in NYC, Twilight Fashion, and Six Degrees of Twilight [Darn, once again, somebody beat me to a feature idea.]

HGE has a scan of Cam Gigandet's new ad for GAP. [Mabelle thanks you, HGE and JustJared. And wow, Preppy suits Cam well. Repeat after us: Cam never disappoints.]

Lastly, Entertainment Weekly has a very revealing interview with Stephenie Meyer. Why revealing? In an unpublished segment of Episode 1 of Danag, we discussed the Midnight Sun Issue, and it was a collective opinion among the panelists that we thought Stephenie should have asked her publicists to write her statement for her instead of posting such an emotional letter on her site. It turns out, her publicists did write that letter, as she herself revealed in this EW interview. Whoa. Steph also revealed how she felt after watching a preview of Twilight, her thoughts about Rob [best description of Rob that I've ever read and totally agree with, thank you, Steph!], the fan reception for Breaking Dawn, and more about her planned books [now those sirens really sound interesting....].

Oh, and we'd like to join The Lexicon and HGE in using "Dark High Noon" as a code name for Midnight Sun. That was inspired! Thanks, Patience (from the Lex comments)!

TMF's Comprehensive Guide to Twilight, Part 2a

The Movie Fanatic has posted the first section of Part 2 of their Comprehensive Guide to Twilight. In this section, Jed discusses the various controversial issues that have plagued, and are continuing to plague, the Twilight fandom: The battle of the sexes, and controversies related to Stephenie Meyer like religion, feminism, and Midnight Sun. It's a great read, take a look here.

News Round-up: September 4

This new image of Jacob and Billy from The Hollywood Reporter was added to the Twilight Movie Stills album.

This photo is from the latest issue of CosmoGIRL.

It has been added to its own photo album along with a scan and transcript of the article.

More articles have surfaced, picking up the news about Midnight Sun:
Entertainment Weekly updated their article about the reshoots for the Twilight film to add some news about the soundtrack and Robert's work in it.  We've already read about this from the SDCC reports, but EW added that Robert recorded his songs last month and "while Hardwicke wanted Pattinson to write Bella's Lullaby for the film, Hardwicke says Pattinson's music is very personal. `I don't think he does it on request,' she writes in an e-mail. `His two songs are pretty great.'"

Stephenie's Official Statement about Midnight Sun

News about the leaked draft of Midnight Sun rocked the Twilight fandom last week. Today, Stephenie Meyer has issued an official statement regarding the incident. Here is an excerpt:

So where does this leave Midnight Sun? My first feeling was that there was no way to continue. Writing isn't like math; in math, two plus two always equals four no matter what your mood is like. With writing, the way you feel changes everything. If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely.

I'd rather my fans not read this version of Midnight Sun. It was only an incomplete draft; the writing is messy and flawed and full of mistakes. But how do I comment on this violation without driving more people to look for the illegal posting? It has taken me a while to decide how and if I could respond. But to end the confusion, I've decided to make the draft available here (at the end of this post). This way, my readers don't have to feel they have to make a sacrifice to stay honest. I hope this fragment gives you further insight into Edward's head and adds a new dimension to the Twilight story. That's what inspired me to write it in the first place.

This is sad news and a big blow to all of us fans who are excited to read Midnight Sun in its entirety.

But she didn't say outright that she won't EVER continue writing it. In the Playlist page, she just wrote that she doesn't know when she'll get back to it. Let's hope that Steph feels better and goes back to writing it soon, because I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that even in its unedited, "messy and flawed" form, Midnight Sun shines.
