UPDATE: Apparently, Powerbooks has adjusted the price for their Official Guide. It is now 1,105PHP. (See their FB reply here.) However, their original FB announcement (link below) still states 749PHP. At present, we think 1,105PHP is the final price as it is closer to the price set by NBS and Powerbooks' announcement was made back in early March, so maybe it wasn't set yet.


It took a while, but finally, the official guide is coming out! Already we have two sneak peeks of the content, the most recent one a page about James sent to the Twilight Lexicon.

EW.com was able to get two images: an illustration of Bella's wedding dress from Breaking Dawn and a shot of vamp Bella. With the Breaking Dawn movie coming out later this year, these are the best for whetting the anticipation over the wait, especially over how the gown is supposed to look like.

The artwork for the Official Guide was done by Young Kim, who also gave life to the first (and hopefully not last) Twilight graphic novel.

Twilight in Comic Con

The June 30 release of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse was a little early for last weekend's celebration of Comic Con, but the franchise was still felt during the event, even if it was to a lesser degree than usual. Here are some of the Twilight-related happenings in San Diego:

The Fansites and Steph

Before I begin the round-up, some non-Twilight-related news, but one that Robert Pattinson fans will probably like: Pioneer Films has informed us that Remember Me will be available on DVD locally. At present, the tentative date of release is by the end of July... so, in a few days? We still have to follow up the exact dates though. We'll post when we have more info.

Well, Eclipse has already been pulled out of most Metro Manila theaters. But it hasn't been totally removed--Robinsons Galleria still has it on two time slots in Cinema 10 today--so if you know people who haven't watched it yet or if you just can't get enough of Edward or Jacob that you HAVE to watch it for the nth time, check the listings for the bigger, 10-12 cinema outlets, like SM. Their online lists should be updated daily.


Summit Entertainment has already revealed that filming will take place in Louisiana and Vancouver and that, despite the, um, "events" that occur in the book, they will still keep the movies within a tame PG-13 rating. Also, although the first part already has a set release date (11/18/2011), the second part doesn't, despite earlier assumptions that it would come out summer 2012. In fact, looking at the heavyweights it's up against in that time period according to MTV--Avengers, Madagascar 3, MIB3, Star Trek 2, Spiderman, Batman 3--I think maybe Summit is right in reconsidering their dates.

It's early (or not) but there's already talk of BD casting! Word on the grapevine is that Lee Pace of TV series Pushing Daisies is in the running to play Garrett, the nomadic vampire that eventually mates with Denali sister, Kate. However, Gossip Cop shoots this down. It does have us excited about the actor possibilities, though I don't envy the casting director his/her job at the moment. Which character are you looking forward to seeing cast? Got any potential actors in mind?

One person also hard at work pre-production is screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg. Popsugar was able to ask her about Breaking Dawn.

PS: We've heard there are some scenes you want to avoid showing on screen in Breaking Dawn. For example, Bella giving birth. Can you tell us why?
MR: That was a misquote. The childbirth — all the scenes, I feel — should be on screen. I think perhaps what I was referring to was, would we actually see Edward's teeth through the placenta? I don't think so. I don't think we need to see that, and if someone needs to see that, I think they should take a look at that. [Laughs.] I believe it will be implied, but I don't think we'll see teeth in the placenta.

PS: What is one of your favorite scenes from the books or films? Is there one you've especially enjoyed writing or look forward to writing?
MR: There are a number. I think seeing Bella as a vampire and her adjusting to her powers and embracing them, those are all really fun scenes to write. Particularly when you picture Kristen Stewart playing her, and the way she's embodied Bella as a sort of awkward, fidgety persona. When she turns into a vampire, all of that goes away.

Melissa also talked to Movieline. We'll have to remember how she responded to these questions when Breaking Dawn eventually comes out.

And Bill Condon is a writer as well. What kind of situation is it for you as a screenwriter when you’re working with a director who also writes — do they want ownership of the script, too?
You know, it could go either way. I’ve certainly worked in both situations, but the fact that Bill’s a writer, and I think a writer first…his notes have been the kind of notes you get from another writer, which are the best kind of notes. Character, theme, depth, complexity…it’s not just, “Let’s get that action set piece!” He’s really talking about the core of the story. He’s like, “I want you to write these movies.” He doesn’t want to write these movies. Rather than just taking them and doing what he would do, I think he’s really more sensitive than most would be to what I need to do to make these great. He knows exactly how to give that to me. It’s sort of like an actor directing actors — sometimes, they make the best directors. A writer directing a writer could be a disaster — “Oh my God, they took the movie from me” — or it could be absolutely perfect, and so far, it’s been perfect.

You’re working now on Breaking Dawn, which will be split into two movies. Do you treat each of those parts like they’re their own film, or like it’s one film split in two?
There’s absolutely a difference. Each one has to be approached as a separate movie, and each story has to stand alone.

How do they feel different to you?
Well, one is Bella as a human — first a newlywed, and then pregnant. It’s about Bella surviving that, but also staying true to her choices. The other one is completely different. The world has totally changed from her. She’s now this strong, unbreakable vampire who finds out that she has some extraordinary gifts. They’re actually really different stories in a lot of ways.

She covered a little bit about BD as well in an Eclipse interview with EW.

Were you hoping there would be two Breaking Dawn movies?
Initially, I went back and forth. At first, I thought one. Then, when I got more into the story and thought, you know what, this is two. It’s a lot in one book. We would have had to cut out so much to do one movie. The nature of the book is sort of two movies. There’s before she’s a vampire and then after she’s a vampire. We’d be giving short shrift to both sections to try and do it as one.

How will it feel to leave the Twilight franchise?
I left Dexter after the fourth season, too. Twilight and Dexter — they’ve been my worlds for the last four years or so. Part of me is very excited about doing something new. I’m ready to branch out and explore other worlds and characters. The other part of me is sad to leave them and a little bit nervous. I’m comfortable in these worlds. I know I can write Dexter and Twilight. It’s always anxiety-provoking to go into new worlds and have to get to know a whole new language.

Let's see what we missed out on about Eclipse in the net.

Entertainment Weekly's Popwatch chatted with costume designer Tish Monaghan, who gave them some cool trivia about the characters' clothes in the movie, like, why Kellan wears lighter shirts (to show off his muscles), where they get Rob and Taylor's shirts (the Gap... Taylor's is a size smaller than usual to display those buffed up biceps), how there's more to Rosalie's wedding dress (the train is 30-ft long), why RPattz's pants are kinda loose (they're actually karate pants), and how there's a little bit of Rachelle Lefevre's Victoria in Bryce Dallas Howard's version. (We touched up on all this in the Danag podcast's soon-to-be-released episode 23, our Eclipse movie review.)

SELF.com has a more in-depth interview with the designer regarding color and wardrobe style choices, such as the brands of the characters' clothing. Key points I'd like to highlight:

SELF: How is Bella's look in Eclipse different from in New Moon?

Tish Monaghan: Well, it's funny because the movies come out a year apart, but onscreen, only a week has passed. With Bella [Kristen Stewart], she's a little more settled in public and in her relationship with Edward. And so, at the beginning, I wanted to show a little bit more of a relation to the Cullens' colors, a cool palate, and steer away from the warm earth tones that were more evident in New Moon.

There are quite a few romantic scenes, so I wanted to show a softer side of Bella without going too girly or feminine, because that's just not at the heart of who she is. She's a very practical person, so I tried to soften her up a bit with color. We open up with her wearing one of her signature plaid shirts, but it's in a softer, lilac fabric and looks very pretty in a field of flowers. We tried to retain the integrity of her character, but just lighten her up a little.

And how about for the boys?

In New Moon, Edward [Robert Pattinson] is essentially in a suit throughout most of the movie because he almost gets frozen in time on the night of Bella's birthday party, when the tragedy occurs. So he sports that look of a restrained, contained individual throughout the film. I wanted to ensure that in Eclipse, we brought him back into the world of a grade twelve student. I wanted to make a point of getting him back to t-shirts and jeans and sneakers, a more casual look while maintaining the Cullen's flavor, which is always a little more styled - I mean, he's never going to look too rough and ready. We wanted to get him out of the gentlemanly quotient and into clothes that look good and fit nicely, but seem a little more youthful. For Jacob, the only thing I changed was I put him into some cutoff cargo shorts instead of cutoff jeans. We ended up using a lot of the same t-shirts because they fit him so well.

Collider.com interviewed Eric Leven, the visual effects supervisor of Eclipse, who reveals the existence of limited collectible items made for the crews of both the second and third films!

A really interesting article on The Huffington Post site is titled "A Twilight Seduction: What Men can Learn from Edward". It's a quite lengthy article which discusses the "sexual" dynamic (or lack thereof) between the love triangle of Edward, Bella and Jacob. And it ends with a few tips "to inspire lustful adoration", among them:

Kiss: Tenderly, urgently, to communicate, to explore, and for no reason at all.
Smolder: Look into our eyes like you want to learn us, then ask us what we're thinking. We're going to tell you anyway, so you might as well get credit for it.
Say Things We'll Savor: Telling us we're beautiful is fine, but tell us why and we'll believe you.

I'm not sure about the "smoldering" part (remembering how it was used in the Tangled trailer), but a lot of it does make sense, so check the article out.

If there is one thing we can count ourselves lucky for, it's that the Twilight movies come out with great music. Twilight and New Moon both rocked (and, raise your hands if you've heard this before, made "some people" scream "Twilight doesn't deserve such good music/artists!" Well, sorry to you guys, but...) Eclipse is no exception.

You already know the list of songs we've posted here, and maybe even heard some of them online--The Eclipse Soundtrack site recently made the songs available for preview for 24 hours. If you're not familiar with any of them yet, you can still view the music video of Muse's Eclipse headlining theme, Neutron Star Collision (Love is Forever) here on MTV and its Making Of video on MySpace. (Would also like to point out this article on DailyRecord UK where Muse's lead singer, Matt Bellamy, comments, "Of course it doesn't matter we have gained fans because of Twilight and that might seem to be uncool... As a band you are represented everywhere." He makes sense, he does.) Vampire Weekend's song, titled Jonathan Low, can also be played here, although the track was unavailable when I last checked.

Like last October's New Moon collection, Eclipse operates as a sort of alt-party primer: original songs from the genre's current varsity squad, with a smattering of JV newbies. Pomp-rockers Muse, practically the movies' musical mascots by now, provide the requisite dose of Queen-meets-Rush grandiosity on ''Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever),'' while Jack White side project the Dead Weather revel in swampy blooze-ooze on ''Rolling in on a Burning Tire.'' Vampire Weekend, stripped of their habitual Afro-pop swaddling, work the harpsichord-tinged twee of ''Jonathan Low'' into a pleasingly woolly tangle, though Australian chanteuse Sia's ''My Love'' does more with much less — her fragile ballad is so ethereal and otherworldly, it should be sung in Elvish. U.K. indie-pop outfit Fanfarlo's rickety ''Atlas'' sounds like Talking Heads on a dirt-road detour; Beck and British songstress Bat for Lashes trade haunting echo-chamber 
vocals on the percussion-heavy duet ''Let's Get Lost''; and on the heady ''Heavy in Your Arms,'' Florence + the Machine make like Siouxsie Sioux leading a tribal marching band into battle. And then we have the score. For Twilight, we had Carter Burwell. For New Moon, we had Alexandre Desplat. It was a pleasant surprise for us to find out that Summit was able to ask composer Howard Shore (famous for scoring The Lord of the Rings) to handle the music for the third Twilight Saga movie, Eclipse. In an exclusive interview with the Twilight Examiner, he shares his vision and his creative process.

Listening to the ECLIPSE score, I noticed that you made Jacob the primary musical character, while using Bella as a sort of surrogate, bookending character.

He’s an important part of the story, and his character is an important element in the arc of the story. The timing was right in the third part to work with Jacob’s feelings and the dramatic arc of Jacob’s story. The Jacob character wasn’t really developed until the third film. It just felt right.

Do you find yourself becoming emotionally invested in scoring these extremely dramatic films?

I do, I do become emotionally invested. I want to write and feel the drama. Music is essentially an emotional language, so you want to feel something from the relationships and build music based on those feelings.

Looks like Mama Stephenie Meyer hasn't let go of the Twilight universe just yet. On her site, stepheniemeyer.com, she's just announced the release of a new book, a short story covering the life of the vampire Bree from Eclipse. The book is titled, The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner.

Actually, this has been a surprise to me, too. The reason why it's a surprise was that I never intended to publish this story as a stand-alone book. I began this story a long time ago—before Twilight was even released. Back then I was just editing Eclipse, and in the thick of my vampire world. I was thinking a lot about the newborns, imagining their side of the story, and one thing led to another. I started writing from Bree's perspective about those final days, and what it was like to be a newborn.

This story was something that I worked on off and on for a while, just for fun, in between the times I was writing or editing other Twilight novels. Later, when the concept for The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide came up, I thought that might be a good place for Bree. Her story is a nice complement to Eclipse; it explains a lot of the things that Bella never knew.

She mentions that the book was referenced by David Slade and the supporting cast that played Riley, Victoria and, of course, Bree. Stephenie also writes that, though there will be physical copies of the book that can be bought (you can order here through Amazon.com), it will also be available as a free download for a limited time.

There was one thing I asked for: since this story had always been an extra for me, and was meant to be released with the Guide, I wanted to be able to offer it to my fans for free. You all have bought a ton of my books, and I wanted to give you this story as a gift. My publisher was awesome and embraced this idea. We still wanted to also produce a physical book with a cool cover (see below) that you can add to your set if you like, but starting at noon on June 7th until July 5th, it will also be available online at www.breetanner.com.

If you do buy the book: "One dollar of each book purchased in the US from the first printing will be donated to the American Red Cross for their relief efforts in Haiti and Chile and other parts of the world where people are in great need. We're going to have an option online as well, so you can choose to make a donation if you want when you read the story online."

As for whether this will be available locally, we'll have to check with the publishers first. :)

Atlantic Records has officially announced the release of the New Moon soundtrack on their site.

On Eclipse, EOnline now has Melissa Rosenberg commenting on the darker turn the movie's going with director David Slade.

"David has a darker sensibility, so it clicks," Rosenberg said. "The story has a slightly darker tone. I mean, it goes into a full-out battle, so it is darker in the nature of what it is. David was the perfect director for it."

I don't mind as long as the leg-hitch scene and the proposal--"I promise to love you forever, every single day of forever"--is there. Hopefully, that line won't end up like the lion-lamb line that still makes our skin crawl whenever we watch it. (We already know the tent scene is there, so no worries about that.)

The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards will debut not only the first single from the New Moon soundtrack (Death Cab for Cutie's Meet Me on Equinox) but also show an extended trailer of the New Moon film. Summit Entertainment has announced the remaining actors to round up the cast list for Eclipse: Booboo Stewart to play Seth Clearwater and Julia Jones for Leah Clearwater. He surprised all fans when he remarked in his interview with Access Hollywood that he has signed up for three films (instead of the expected two) for the film franchise. Dazzled by Twilight, the largest retailer in Forks, Washington, the town where the fictional characters of Stephenie Meyer’s wildly popular Twilight saga takes place will be the only resource to buy limited-run 32-page version of the Meyer’s biography comic featuring a custom, alternate cover. A special edition poster of the cover will also be available through the store.

Fandango recently posted the second part of their New Moon set visit. They were able to view rehearsals for a Volturi scene, where Jane unintentionally (then intentionally) "tortures" Edward, and Bella looks on in horror. The article described the process the actors went through, and a bit of their facial expressions. (It's actually a bit spoilerish... for that one scene anyway.) The writer was even able to meet with Melissa Rosenberg and series author Stephenie Meyer! Here's a peek:

Pattinson stops in his tracks, arches his head back and expresses a look of excruciating pain. He lets out a grunt, the wires pull him back, and then drop him on his back. A camera that's zoomed in on Jane's face shows her red eyes widen and follow him to the spot on the ground where he falls. She hardly blinks. As Bella begs her to stop, Jane keeps staring, and her lips curve into a faint, smug smile.

Along with the set visit was their exclusive interview with Jamie Campbell Bower.

Taylor's New Moon wolf pack brother, Kiowa Gordon, shared a special scene in New Moon that they fondly call "the muffin scene", which, apparently, Taylor didn't partake in.

"When they were eating their funny little muffins, I was standing in the back, all pissed off," Lautner said of the scene, which depicts Jacob as not being too thrilled with the whole imprinting/ turning-into-a-wolf drama. "So I just got to watch them eat their muffins."

And something I found really cute: Kelly Clarkson, who has been very open about her love of Twilight, sang to a cardboard cutout of Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen at a concert in Illinois. More on it as well as her thoughts on being a potential artist on the movie soundtrack here.

Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner shared that they would like to go on American Idol and sing Taylor Swift's "Love Story". The pair showed off their camaraderie while being interviewed during their Entertainment Weekly cover photoshoot. Kristen was particularly light and carefree, a welcome change to the (sexual) tension that seems to persist whenever RPattz is around... Sorry! I just had to go off on a tabloid tangent there.

While Summit and the Eclipse staff probably haven't even exactly finalized sets for the third movie yet, except apparently for this one for Jasper's flashback scene, people are already needing reassurance for a fourth movie. This article on EOnline says that YES, there will be a Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

Summit has partnered with Creation Entertainment to organize a host of Twilight fan conventions set for the next three years. The first one is set for August 28, in New Jersey, according to Examiner.com. We also posted the news release from Summit. You can read it here.

Uh oh, someone's fed up with the haters. Twilight Examiner Amanda Bell decided to write about her frustration with the media making fun of the fan community just to get them to visit sites or read their posts. (Truly, that is the nature of media: to "sensationalize" and prod people to get a reaction. Negative publicity is still publicity. Sad but true.)

In the latter parts of her piece, she defends:

Twilight fans are not stupid. They are not a definite sub-class or counterculture. They are a diverse group of people, including highly intellectual men and women, who prefer the series for one reason or another - albeit at times, yes, the beauty of the actors and actresses is a part of it. They don't need to be tormented by the vicious tongues of writers who disagree with their opinions, and they certainly do not need to be categorized as infantile, insatiable, and unreasonable. Instead, perhaps a little respect can be shown by writers by presenting fans with unadulterated information and facts - sans the misbegotten humor ploys.

This is the same trailer (or featurette, but most pertain to it as a trailer) as was shown in the movie Bandslam! (and was also leaked online). “TWILIGHT” IN THE SPOTLIGHT: STEPHENIE MEYER FEATURED IN “FEMALE FORCE” BIO COMIC

In time for the November theatrical release of “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” Bluewater Productions announced it is producing two versions of an upcoming biography comic on best selling author Stephenie Meyer.

“Female Force: Stephenie Meyer”, scheduled for release right before the movie hits theaters on, November 20th, provides readers two options: a standard 22-page version and a double-sized collector’s edition that contains a variety of extras.

“We get to turn the tables on Meyer and she becomes the featured protagonist,” said Bluewater’s president Darren G. Davis. “And we are going to tell her story in a very fun, respectful and unique way.”

The comic, written by Ryan Burton (“Flying Saucers vs. The Earth”) examines her rise to popularity, her “Twilight” saga novels, the launching of the successful movie franchise and her future plans. According to Burton, a very recognizable and iconic vampire will serve as the story’s narrator.

MOVIE and CAST NEWS
With New Moon looming on the horizon, Eclipse, apparently, isn't very far behind.

Variety.com reports a new addition to the Eclipse cast: Jodelle Ferland. No details on who she's playing, except that it will be a "vampire who has been turned". Maybe we're seeing our future Bree? What do you think?

In any case, if she's joining the Twilight franchise, maybe you'll be interested in following her twitter account, where she shares this little tidbit. Hmm... curiouser and curiouser. Gotta expect another Summit announcement in the next few days.

As for the rest of the cast, they have landed in Vancouver, everyone! Kellan, Elizabeth, Nikki, Ashley, as well as Twilight newbies, Bryce Dallas Howard and Xavier Samuel, were caught on cam arriving at the airport. Pictures are here on Twilight Indonesia. No Kristen and Robert sightings yet, however, RobPattzNews on Twitter has spotted him at LAX, so at least he's back from New York!

Rachelle Lefevre is auctioning Twilight items, some signed by the rest of her castmates, for favored charity School on Wheels. She is also donating $100 to Susan G. Komen for The Cure (breast cancer research) for every 10,000 people who follow her on Twitter. More here.

Though we've been deprived of MTV's Twilight Tuesdays this year, they still continue to look for Twilight stuff for us fans. At TwiCon, they caught up with Jackson Rathbone, who described a bit more of New Moon's "intense birthday scene".

Rathbone: Yeah, there's a little bit more violence. It's definitely longer. It's really about the moment where Bella is realizing what kind of world she's into. We spent the entire time with "Twilight" delving into the vampire world, but now in "New Moon," it's like you're in the vampire world, and what happens when you get a paper cut? What happens when everyone you love turns around on you and suddenly could kill you? She's in that world right now, and she's kind of scared by it. She's also getting into the werewolf world, and suddenly she's got these two new worlds on her — and there's love in both. It's an amazing script.

Remember how Chris Weitz said there are no nude Volturi in New Moon. Let's have another go at it: There's No Nudity in New Moon.

My fellow admins are going to absolutely LOVE this, but, in Danag Podcast Episode 16, we touched up on how Taylor must have convinced Chris Weitz to let him play Jacob, and see how close we were:

Weitz: When I first met with him, I took off my shirt and I said, "You've got two months to look this good." And he said, "I'm willing to try that." Finally, he came back, and the results were just about as good as my abs.

MTV: You must have a real six-pack.

He also mentioned Dakota's acting prowess and how they wanted "force-ghost" Edward to turn out... which isn't so "force-ghostey", we hope. Read more here.

Recently, Stephenie Meyer has again been accused of plagiarism. Jordan Scott alleged that a lot of scenes from Breaking Dawn matched up to an online piece of fiction she wrote when she was 15 years old, among them, the wedding, the baby, and the fact that both heroes call their heroines "love".

Hachette Book Group said in a statement that Meyer's books "have been a phenomenal sensation" and that "it shouldn't be surprising to hear that other people may seek to ride the coattails of such success."

With the release of the first of his own vampire series, "The Strain", co-written with Chuck Hogan, Hellboy and The Hobbit director Guillermo del Toro was asked about Twilight. After seeing Cam Gigandet win Best Fight with Rob at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, we here at TCP are really starting to miss seeing Cam on the big screen. But it looks like he's going back to his blood-sucking ways in an upcoming movie adaptation of the comic book entitled Priest, which is "set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires and follows a warrior priest who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece." Cam will be playing one of the murderous band of vampires going up against Paul Bettany as the Priest. Will he be channeling a bit of James? We'll see. E! Online's Marc Malkin got a hold of the casting notices for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and reveals 3 of the roles on the list:

Riley "is a handsome, blond, clean-cut college boy who falls victim to Victoria." He's in his early to mid 20s and "plays an integral role in Victoria's attempt to murder Bella Swan."

"Seth Clearwater is a tall, gangly-limbed boy with a huge, happy grin. Seth idolizes Jacob."

Leah Clearwater - "She is tall and slender with beautiful skin and short cropped black hair. She would be considered gorgeous if not for the perpetual scowl she carries due to a broken heart and her anger issues."

Several legit news sites recently posted that Stephenie Meyer is being sued for plagiarism by an old roommate of hers at University. Today, she posted a clarification about the issue on her website:

I am not being sued. No one has contacted me or my publisher to inform either of us that I'm being sued. I never had a roommate named Heidi. There is no professor in the BYU English department named Dr. Peter Benton (though there is a character on ER by that name). And most of all, I began writing Twilight exactly the way I've told people in countless interviews and events for the past six years: I had a cool dream, I wrote it down, writing it down was really fun, so I kept writing until I had a whole book.

The sad thing about this silly situation is that so many legitimate news outlets reported it without doing any research at all to determine if there was any truth to the story. And at least two of these facts are really, really easy to confirm. Particularly, the one about the BYU professor. A simple on-line search can give you that information. Also, a quick call to my publisher would have cleared up the whole lawsuit story. (Kudos to the fansites who did their due diligence and debunked this rumor days ago.)

She goes on to say that the filming of New Moon is still ongoing, and she seems very impressed with Rob, Kristen, Taylor, and Chris Weitz. Read the full post here.
