News Round-Up: February 12, 2010

I guess it's just apt that while we're taking a break from the Twilight stuff until Eclipse comes along earlier than usual in late June, we look ahead to Breaking Dawn. (Confusing wordplay, I know. Just go with it. Lol.)

So, I've decided to get my admin ass into gear to deliver this... uncertain but mostly happy (?) bit of news: Deadline Hollywood's exclusive news today is that the higher-ups in the Twibiz (I'm assuming this includes Mama Steph Meyer) have finally made the decision to make BD into TWO movies. Yep, count 'em. Two.
I have this from several sources, and it's definitive. Filming on the back-to-back movies would begin in mid-October, and Summit Entertainment is looking at "high-end" directors... Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg (who's written all the Twilight Saga films) is currently adapting Breaking Dawn. Eclipse, the 3rd movie, will be released on June 30th.
Honestly, not sure how to feel about this yet. Listeners of our podcast would know that the admins are leaning more towards one movie, not two, if at all, after considering all the technicalities that would naturally come up with filming the [good] craziness that is Breaking Dawn. (Also, despite my... our... love for the cast and the franchise, we realize people do have to "grow up" sometime.)

But oh well, more movies means we get to enjoy the fandom for a wee bit longer. :)

EDIT:
Well, that was fast. Summit sources told MTV news that Breaking Dawn being two movies is as of yet, undetermined.
"No decision has been made," a representative for Summit Entertainment told MTV News after the Deadline Hollywood story ran. "As we have said all along, we are continuing to work with Stephenie Meyer to bring 'Breaking Dawn' to the big screen."
I wonder if this is just another case of jumping the gun...

Backtracking to some other recent news bits...

For those of you, who, like me, have their crazy inner Robstens going loca over all the Remember Me releases (which, by the way, will be shown locally March 12! I've heard it's a good movie and everyone acts well, including our boy RPattz!) TWO stills of Eclipse's meadow scene have surfaced on the internet! And because, apparently, there are some issues with their being online, I'm only posting the released version. For the new ones, you can view them here.

We'll talk the looong list of New Moon DVDs next time, for now, Walmart's Ultimate Fan Edition is said to contain a sneak peek at Eclipse and will be the only version to do so according to the Twilight Lexicon. The DVD comes in 2 discs.

On something not-so-Twilight-related: if you're on Facebook, join Sam Bradley's The Manila Diaries group! The docu he and Zack Spiger filmed while here in the Philippines will be out online February 22! (2-22! Two seems to be the number of the day.)

New Moon Mass Market Movie Tie-In now available

UPDATE (11/9): Now also available in other bookstores for the same price! Thanks for the info, Liam!

The New Moon Movie Tie-In Mass Market Paperback is now available at National Bookstore for P295.00.

What's the difference between this edition and the Trade Paperback? Basically just the cover and the size of the book... oh and of course, the price (Trade PB is P439.00). That's the superficial answer. If you're wondering about the real difference in publishing parlance, click here. :P

Thanks to minxdrabble for the tip.

Sales of all Twilight Saga books are still going strong in the United States, and could only be expected to continue its positive run with the upcoming New Moon film. As USA Today reported, all four books of the saga are on the forefront of USA Today's Best-Selling list for the second quarter.

Reuters posted an interview with Catherine Hardwicke on her projects after making the Twilight film and how it is collaborating mostly with teens in her projects.

With Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince coming in theaters this week, it comes as no surprise that we again have Twilight vs. Harry Potter article in our midst. "New Moon" Movie Tie-In Book Cover Revealed!

POST UPDATED 11:15am 3:00pm. Please scroll down.

This is Clair de Lune bringing you this morning's news.

The people who listened to Danag Podcast Episode 15 will (hopefully) remember that I personally had issues with Edward being at the foreground of the lovely New Moon teaser poster. That's not to say I didn't like the poster - I did! - it's just that I'm too conscious about how the central relationships and characters in New Moon are portrayed in the movie. However, as long as the poster was able to relay what New Moon is all about, I was okay with it. So yes, I was okay with it. :p

But lookie what Entertainment Weekly just revealed: the New Moon Movie Tie-In book cover!

While this cover is not quite as dramatic as the teaser poster, this proves, at least to me, that a New Moon poster can work without Edward in the foreground and still convey a lot about the story. And as we predicted in Danag Episode 15, if they ever come up with a more Bella/Jacob-centric poster, it will be to hype up the Bella/Jacob "relationship". Oh, and look, Mabs, the wolves in the background, just like you wanted! ;) Chalk another one up for the Oracles of Danag. ;)

I've shared my personal opinion about the cover, now do let us know what you think by posting a comment. :)

UPDATE (11:15AM): We found another movie tie-in cover, this time courtesy of NewMoonMovie.org from a link sent to us by TCP reader, Jerica (thank you!). If my suspicions are correct, the first cover above is for the Trade Paperback edition of the Movie Tie-In, while this second cover is for the Mass Market Paperback edition of the Movie Tie-In. As you will recall, Little, Brown also published two versions of the Movie Tie-In for Twilight, and the Trade Paperback one also had a poster included. We will be contacting Hachette Book Group USA (Phils.) to confirm, but I'm almost certain that this is the case. :)

UPDATE (3:00PM): Hachette Book Group USA (Phils.) confirmed that the 1st cover is for the Trade Paperback edition, and the second is for the Mass Market Paperback edition. Philippine release dates to be announced soon.

We will provide more information about the local release of these titles nearer to their publication dates.

Thank you to Hachette Book Group USA (Phils.) for the information.
