Forbidden Planet has revealed the new NECA Edward and Bella 7" Action Figure 2-Pack. It is now available for pre-order at Forbidden Planet, and should retail for around £24.99 or PhP1,600.

In related news, the NECA 11.5" Edward Cullen Action Figure is now locally available at 2Rats (with branches in Greenhills, Goldcrest, and Eastwood), and retails for PhP1,200. Thanks to Bjie for the update.

The Los Altos Town Crier has an essay from a seventh-grader about how Twilight Invokes Multiple Genres to Serve Its Romance.

Collider.com has interviews with Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Edi Gathegi, and Rachelle Lefevre about New Moon.

PETA has awarded Twilight the 2008 Libby Award for the Most Animal Friendly Movie, which really boggled a lot of people since the Cullens drink animal blood. [There's probably a different criteria for this, because it's gonna be awkward if it turns out PETA didn't do their research and thought "vegetarian vampire" meant the Cullens eat vegetables.]

E! Online is asking "What's the scoop on the New Moon soundtrack?"

Danag Episode 10 Part 1 is now online!

Boy, this was one laugh-fest of an episode, Part 1 of Episode 10 is now online!

This is our first attempt at incorporating listener feedback in our programme, and one of the lessons that we learned is to ask just one question per episode. The discussions became too long, thus, we had to split this episode into two parts.

Majority of Part 1 is about the Twilight DVD and the New Moon Casting Rumours. Part 2 contains our 2008 Year In Review.

Episode 10 Part 1 - What Do You Mean Edward Can't Have A Jamaican Accent, Man?

In which:
- "Charlie" comes back
- We discuss the latest New Moon casting rumours
- We try to figure out The Curious Case of Friedman and Wachsberger
- We discuss what we want to see in the Twilight DVD
- Everyone, and we mean everyone, auditions for the role of Edward

More New Moon Casting Updates and Rumors

More sites are reporting on Dakota Fanning slated to play our favorite sinister little vampire Jane in New Moon. Check out her interviews in ET Online, IESB.net, Access Hollywood, and NBC where Dakota confirms that she is currently in talks for the role of Jane and hopes it all works out. MTV has also unearthed a previous interview with Dakota as she was just getting into the Twilight phenomenon.

Another famous face that might be considered for the New Moon roster is America Ferrera, who is reported to have auditioned for the role of Emily Young.

We can all expect more casting rumors (and hopefully official announcements by Summit) in the following weeks. In the meantime, who do you think should play Alec in the New Moon film? Check out the speculation and polls in Entertainment Weekly and People.

UPDATE: Apparently, it's a Native American actress named America Young who auditioned for the role of Emily, and not America Ferrera.

Twilight Gay 03: When the sparkle hit the fan, may bumayo

Twilight Gay is back! You can't really expect him to just keep quiet about Takipsilim, right? So here's his take on the whole mess about the so-called "Pinoy Twilight remake", and all we can say is: bato-bato sa langit, ang tamaan huwag magagalit. Smile na lang kayo, and sparkle!

As with previous installments, this column uses adult language and themes, and is not recommended for younger readers, or older readers who are too sensitive. :p

TWILIGHT GAY 03: When the sparkle hit the fan, may bumayo
By: Ronald

Have you guys missed me? It's been almost a month since my last post – not that anybody's been keeping track – and quite a lot has happened amongst the Twilight faithful.

The biggest thing to happen, of course, was the quick rise and equally quick descent of that cultural abortion that is "Takipsilim". If all of you were thinking that this issue is a horse already beaten to death, then you're wrong, because I haven't gotten my kicks in yet.

Of course every Filipino Twilighter knows the story: Some time around the holidays, word began to spread that ABS-CBN would be making Takipsilim, a Filipino adaptation of Twilight starring Rayver "Fishlips" Cruz and Shaina "Lookit! Mah boobs!" Magdayao.

Cue everyone running around screaming like Godzilla was all up in this bitch. Cue online petitions, online insults, and online wishes of death upon the ABS-CBN infidels. From all the ruckus, you would have thought Armageddon was coming, in the form of a teleserye.

People, people, people. Look at me. Take a deep breath. Listen carefully. GET A GRIP.

It's not that anybody ever thought that Takipsilim would be a great idea. While our local stations make the occasional great drama every once in a while, fantasy series have never been their specialty. My two personal favorties, Marina and Kampanerang Kuba, while camp classics, were far from being any kind of "good". Watching most Filipino fantaseryes is like sucking very warm shit through a very short straw.

What was so distressing to me, and probably to the saner Twilighters, was the somewhat subconscious hate some people displayed towards being Filipino.

There was a lot of hand-wringing as to how the (in)famous lion/lamb conversation would sound like in Filipino, with one particularly rabid commenter noting that "leon/tupa" doesn't have the same delicious flavor as lion/lamb.

Honey, the lion/lamb conversation is bad, and no amount of translation, in Elvish or otherwise, is going to make it sound any better. Even SMeyer agrees with me. You probably didn't mean to sound like an annoying, pretentious twat, but you did.

The ease with which most people threw our country under the bus was equally disconcerting. "Oh, how embarrassing! Them white people will laugh at us! All we ever do is remake stuff!" As if Hollywood is the bastion of originality. As if the people who comment on Perez Hilton are the cream of the intellectual crop. His whole schtick is putting cum stains on people's pictures! And their idea of witty reparte is "First!" and "Whoreanus!"

A lot of people were so eager to condemn a Filipino company daring to adapt a Western work that nobody even cared to ask how reliable a source a Pinoy Exchange forum poster is. While ABS-CBN showed their ineptitude and idiocy with their handling of the mess once the story broke, why didn't any one think that a $1 million investment isn't something you just calmly let loose on a public message board without any sort of fanfare? And as Clair de Lune pointed out, does nobody use fact checkers anymore? Not even the paper I work for?

There are so many valid reasons to hate the possibility of Takipsilim. Hate it because Rayver Cruz, Joross Gamboa, and Carlos Agassi can't act thier way out of a wet paper bag. Hate it because the special effects will no doubt look like something I could have just as easily done on Powerpoint. But don't use it as a convenient excuse to display your own insecurities about being brown.

News Round-Up: January 23

MTV spoke to Kristen Stewart while she was promoting her new film, Adventureland, at the Sundance Film Festival. Kristen revealed that she has met with New Moon director Chris Weitz, and that she has put her fears about a new director to rest because Weitz is really devoted to the project. She is also happy about Taylor Lautner being back on board as Jacob, and she said she didn't understand why there was initially some uncertainty about Taylor coming back. She also had something to say about the Twilight franchise in general:

It's such a machine now. All of a sudden, this movie has become [something bigger]. With all the expectations — usually, you make a movie and think, 'If it touches people, great; if it doesn't, then you move on to the next one, and no one's personally affected by it.' [But] everyone's really sensitive with any changes right now. Everyone needs to be on the same page to make the same movie [as the original 'Twilight' was], or else it will be a very disoriented project.

Click here to read the rest of the article.

It looks like Chris Weitz is well into pre-production for New Moon. The Daily News Online is reporting that Weitz and some of the New Moon crew went to visit Kalama High School, the location of all the scenes in Forks High School. However, it isn't clear if Weitz plans to use the school again as a location. Click here for the full story.

New Moon Casting Rumor: Dakota Fanning as Jane

E! Online's Marc Malkin is reporting that 14-year-old Dakota Fanning is in talks with Summit Entertainment to take on the role of Jane in New Moon. Apparently, there were no auditions, and Summit offered Dakota the role outright.

Click here to read the story.

Please remember that until Summit Entertainment releases an official statement, this remains to be a rumour.

[Sounds good to me, except... can they possibly afford Dakota Fanning on their budget?!]

Twilight Soundtrack Turns Gold!!!

Please do not repost any part of this article, just link to us. Thank you :)

We would like to congratulate everyone in the Filipino Twilight fandom for making the Twilight OST reach Gold status in the Philippines!!! Thanks Ms. Kristine of Warner Music Phils. for the info:

TWILIGHT SOUNDTRACK TURNS GOLD!

“TWILIGHT- MUSIC FROM THE ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK,” the musical companion to one of the year’s biggest blockbuster is also the years biggest soundtrack.

The first soundtrack in 6 years to debut at #1 in the US Billboard charts, TWILIGHT the Motion Picture Soundtrack held the #1 spot in Philippine music stores upon its release and stayed at #1 all through out the holidays, selling over 10,000 copies.

Twilight, the soundtrack features Paramore’s smash hit, “Decode” which also hit #1 in all our top radio stations and is recently nominated as Favorite International Music Video for the 2008 MYX awards, thanks to the unwavering support of both Paramore and Twilight fans.

Paramore’s other song on the OST, “I Caught Myself” is now getting heavy airplay on radio and is all set to be the next big single, while the prom scene soundtrack “Flightless Bird, American Mouth” by Iron & Wine continues to be a fan favorite.

Compiled by music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas (Gossip Girl, Grey’s Anatomy, The O.C), Twilight the motion picture soundtrack also includes tracks from Muse, Linkin Park, Collective Soul, Perry Farrell and Mutemath, just some of author Stephanie Meyer’s favorite bands.

As if that weren't enough, TWILIGHT star Rob Pattinson (who plays Edward Cullen) has contributed an original song, “Never Think”—his first-ever released recording. The film’s score was composed by Carter Burwell, and the soundtrack also includes his “Bella’s Lullaby,” a heartfelt song that Edward composes for Bella Swan (played by Kristen Stewart) in the film.

TWILIGHT fans will be delighted with some of the many bonuses the soundtrack has to offer. The physical version of the soundtrack will feature a CD booklet that folds out into an Edward & Bella poster, and Collectible trading cards which will randomly reveal one of four images—Edward, Bella, James, or Edward and Bella together.

Twilight: Official Motion Picture Soundtrack and Twilight: The Score are still available in your local record stores.

Oh, wait. It could've been an enterprising *insert expletive here*.

BellaandEdward.com finally has photos of the Inkworks Twilight Trading Cards Pieceworks set in their gallery.

The Hollywood Reporter has a very revealing interview with Summit Entertainment bigwigs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger. The duo talked about how Twilight has changed the company, as well as more details about Summit and their projects. They also made clarifications about the Catherine Hardwicke issue. We also finally have confirmation that the budget for New Moon is bigger than Twilight's:

THR: Will "New Moon" stay in the same $38 million budget range?

Friedman: No. The next one will be higher than that. We believe that the film will naturally be more expensive. Sequels become more expensive, and we have more special effects.

Wachsberger: And locations. In the second movie there is a sequence in Italy.

THR: There is talk that because Edward is out of the picture for much of "New Moon," there will be elements of the second and third books combined into the second movie.

Wachsberger: No, but Edward is present for the movie.

The budget is bigger, but don't expect New Moon and the rest of the Twilight Saga to turn into mega-budget blockbusters just yet. Later in the interview, Rob Friedman said:

Friedman: Are we gonna be in the $100 million-plus production business? No.

Oh well....

MTV gave Jackson Rathbone a video camera and told him to chronicle his experiences in one his band's concerts. Click here to watch the video from the 100 Monkeys show!

Access Hollywood sent us links to new Twilight articles on their site. Thank you to Rachel of Access Hollywood/NBC! Ashley Greene reveals that Rob Pattinson got in trouble for his new haircut. She said she still loved his old haircut, but would cut him some slack. ;) Meanwhile, in another twist to the Vanessa Hudgens New Moon Audition Mystery [I feel like I should call in Agent Olivia Dunham to check this out now...] AH is reporting that their sources at Summit Entertainment confirmed that Vanessa actually did audition, and that "she's up for the role".

Whaaat?! Let's do a recap: Ashley Greene said she didn't know that Vanessa Hudgens auditioned for New Moon but said she'd love to work with V. Then MTV reported that Ashley confirmed that Vanessa did audition. Everyone got confused, so JustJaredJr. asked Vanessa's rep, who said they didn't know anything about a New Moon audition. Entertainment Weekly's sources say that no audition happened. And now, Access Hollywood says sources at Summit confirmed that Vanessa did audition.

So what's the real deal? Well, The Twilight Lexicon decided to go straight to scriptwriter Melissa Rosenberg to ask. Melissa's reply?

If Vanessa is auditioning for the role of Leah, she’s written her own pages to read, ’cause I didn’t write ‘em.

That should put the rumours to rest... for now. Leah Clearwater isn't in New Moon (or at least, there are no speaking parts).

Meanwhile, Nokia has updated their Twilight site to include Stephenie Meyer's answers to the fansites' questions (check the Communities section). MuteMath on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno"

MuteMath will be performing their single from the Twilight Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, Spotlight, on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno's January 15th episode.

We are one day behind in episodes, so watch out for the MuteMath performance when The Tonight Show airs on January 16th, 11:00pm, on JackTV. The episode will also feature Kevin James and Emma Roberts.

Vanessa Hudgens' Rep: "I don't know anything about the audition"

JustJared spoke to Vanessa Hudgens' rep, who apparently had no knowledge of the alleged New Moon audition, and said it was just a rumor.

[I suspected it was something like this. I watched Ashley Greene's interview with ExtraTV a few days ago, and when asked about Vanessa Hudgens, she gave the impression that she didn't know about the rumours about the High School Musical star being in the running for a role in New Moon. She did say she would love to work with Vanessa. This is the reason why the previous post's title ended with a question mark. I was surprised that MTV reported that Ashley confirmed the rumours about Vanessa's audition, and thought that maybe Ashley asked the production people about it. This does not seem to be the case. Maybe someone just made an assumption based on Ashley's answers.]

Vanessa Hudgens auditioned for "New Moon"?

MTV is reporting that, during their interview with Ashley Greene, the actress confirmed that Vanessa Hudgens went in to audition for New Moon as Leah Clearwater.

Ashley also revealed that the script for the sequel is currently undergoing a re-write.

Click here to read the article.

Ashley was also asked about this a few days ago. You can watch the interview with Extra TV here.

[While Leah was not included in the Casting Call that was recently posted online, it doesn't mean that she wouldn't be included in New Moon. However, it is a bit unlikely that they would cast a high-profile actress like Vanessa for what must amount as an extra role. If you will recall, Leah didn't really figure prominently in New Moon, except to appear in the scene where the Clearwaters had dinner with the Blacks and the Swans.]

Taylor Watch: 26 Pounds and counting!

Access Hollywood has an interview with Taylor Lautner.

I must say, his current appearance has very much improved. [Recites to self: I will not make a fan-girly comment. I will not make a fan-girly comment.]

The Twilight DVD will be available in the US on March 21, 2009 as confirmed in Stephenie Meyer's website (thanks Issa for the info). We'll keep you posted once we find out information regarding the local release date. You can also pre-order the DVD in Amazon, where it is already the number one bestselling DVD in movies and TV.

Given the line-up of movies for 2009, Entertainment Weekly dubs the year as the Year of the Werewolf. As expected, New Moon is included as one of the movies contributing to this title.

Now for our star werewolf, Tribute has an article on Taylor Lautner getting the role for Jacob Black. To more, ahem, interesting news, let's check out Taylor's progress in the physical department. Taylor has an interview by E! regarding beefing up for his role in New Moon. Times of the Internet has a short piece about Taylor getting the Jacob role in New Moon.

Publisher's Weekly has a report about the books that flew off the US shelves in December 2008. Most of them were children's and young adult books, and of course, the Twilight books were mentioned:

Children’s books proved to be one of the most recession-resistant segments of the book business this holiday season, with the Twilight series and the latest from J.K. Rowling leading the pack. Stephenie Meyer’s vampire books had the added distinction of being the hardest to keep in stock. At BookPeople in Austin, Tex., where getting enough copies of New Moon caused the biggest headache, “Meyer sales alone were actually 5% of our kids’ sales, which is staggering,” noted children’s book buyer Meghan Dietsche Goel in a posting on the ABC listserv.

Reelz Channel has a video update about New Moon.

Spoiler.tv got a hold of the casting call for New Moon here. The first thing I noticed was that Aro was missing from the list. Fortunately, Lana Veenker, who was one of the casting directors for Twilight, has just posted an update about New Moon on her blog, and she also answered my question:

"If a major role is not listed on the breakdown at all, this usually means that the role has been cast, is currently in negotiation or is only open to name actors, so the CDs (casting directors) are not seeking submissions from talent agents at this time."

[This really got me thinking... could this have anything to do with it? No, no, CdL. Don't get your hopes up too much...]

StephenieMeyer.com: Taylor is still Jacob!

From StephenieMeyer.com:

Good news about New Moon from director Chris Weitz:

I'm very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he's doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.

The characters in Stephenie's books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I'm looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.

very best

Chris Weitz

I'd just like to add that I was very much a part of this decision. My first priority was always what was best for New Moon — what was going to give us the best possible movie. I'm truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I'm very much looking forward to seeing what he's going to bring to Jacob's character this year.

- Steph

Thank you to Mae for the heads-up! Go, Steph! Go, Chris!

EW.com: Taylor may get to keep the Jacob role

EW.com is speculating that when Summit Entertainment announces some casting decisions for New Moon, possibly sometime this week, it may turn out that Taylor Lautner will still be Jacob Black. In addition, EW's sources say that nobody else has been approached for the role just yet:

Recently, there have been rumors that Michael Copon (The Scorpion King 2) and Steven Strait (10,000 BC) are jockeying for Lautner's spot. But you can chalk that up to empty Web noise: Reps for both actors say neither has been approached for the role. In fact, in what may shape up to be a triumph of the underdog, sources close to the production say that the simplest route would be to go with Lautner. EW has confirmed that the actor has not only met with director Weitz, but was even screen-tested for chemistry with Kristen Stewart. ''I'm very hopeful,'' a New Moon insider says of Lautner. ''We're not looking at anybody else.''

Rob Drops Out of "Parts Per Billion"

Iron & Wine appeared on the January 5 episode of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and he sang Flightless Bird, American Mouth. I'm not sure how late we are in terms of the episodes, but if it's like the Ellen show, then we're one episode behind. If that's the case, then the episode with Iron & Wine should air tonight on JackTV at 10:30pm 11:00pm. :)

UPDATE: The episode is indeed on right now! Iron & Wine, yay! :)

MTV gives us a list of what the Twilight cast will be working on this year. Looks like the busiest person on the cast is Cam Gigandet. [Mabs will be so happy.]  Ashley Greene talks further about Shrink and working with Kevin Spacey here.

Twilight is still earning some money and is set to jump over Madagascar 2 to the #7 spot in 2008's list of Highest Grossing Films.

The Reelz Channel Spotlight has a new feature on Twilight here.

I just discovered an interesting site called The-Numbers.com - or at least it's interesting to movie buffs like me. Some of you may know about this already, but let me share it, nonetheless, to those who don't. The site provides Box Office numbers and DVD sales figures, but the neat thing you can do on their site that I really like is to check the total Box Office Earnings of your favorite actors based on their movies' earnings. For example, here's the worldwide box office earnings of all of Robert Pattinson's movies to date ($2.1 BILLION. wow.) Here's Kristen Stewart's chart ($688.9 MILLION only, despite having more movies than Rob. Harry Potter is a big factor.)   You can access the website here.   Have some numerical fun! :)

UPDATED TO ADD:

HisGoldenEyes.com has a report on something rather disturbing about the Twilight Perfume which was recently released by Hot Topic. Apparently, the apple-shaped bottle is almost identical to the bottle design of the Nina perfume by Nina Ricci. Perez Hilton and Trendhunter.com also made that observation. Twilight Series Theories has an interview with Christian Serratos (Angela Weber) here.

The Hollywood Reporter has an article about directors working in the current financial climate. The piece mentions Catherine Hardwicke and her recent departure from the Twilight franchise. Click here to read the article.

The trailer for The Summerhouse, Rob Pattinson's new indie film that's set to be released in April is now online. You can see it via YouTube.

"Twilight" is #3 in the list of the Philippines' Top Grossing Films of 2008

Given a few more extra play dates, Twilight would've probably overtaken A Very Special Love. Unfortunately, it was MMFF time, and it had to be pulled out from cinemas after December 24.

However, Twilight still performed very well, even overtaking The Dark Knight by about half a million dollars in ticket sales. Not bad for the first movie of a franchise that is really only just taking off here in the Philippines, and for a movie that is aimed largely at teenage girls. Take that, box office naysayers! :p

Behind the Scenes clip of the Meadow Scene

BAE is reporting that there's a Behind the Scenes clip of the Meadow Scene up on YouTube now. It shows a couple of lines that were edited out of the movie. Click here to view the video.

Portrait Magazine sent us a link to their interview with Sam Bradley, who co-wrote "Never Think" with Rob Pattinson.

You wrote 'Never Think', on the Twilight soundtrack, with Robert Pattinson - and then you apparently went in completely different directions when recording it. How did that happen - is there an original version?

The original version is just sort of bits and pieces of when we were writing it. So, no, there's no real original version. What it is, is we wrote a song... I came back to Canada, and kind of switched it up a little bit for myself. Melodically, what we originally wrote is probably closer to my version. But Rob, when he plays music, he's really in touch with what he's doing, so he plays a song differently every time. Any song, it'll never sound the same. It's really cool, he's really in the moment. So the recording of Never Think that he did will never sound the same again, which is kind of interesting. Lyrically, though, it's similar.

You can read the entire interview here. Thanks, Jocelyn!

Interestingly enough, Pattinson Online has posted a video of Sam Bradley singing "Never Think" live! Click here to watch it.

ABS-CBN Posts an Erratum to Dec. 24 article

ABS-CBN has posted an erratum to the December 24 article confirming that the network is indeed doing a remake of Twilight.

On December 24, abs-cbnNEWS.com uploaded a story, "ABS-CBN bags rights for local 'Twilight' remake". The source of the story was a report by entertainment writer Edgar Cruz posted on yehey.com.

The duty editor who uploaded the story failed to check with ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. whether the story was correct and accurate.

If you will recall, the Christmas Eve article disappeared 24 hours or so after it was posted. To refresh your memory, we once again offer a screen capture of the deleted article here.

Yehey.com's original report by Edgar Cruz may be found here.

Two questions:
1. So to get the root cause of this problem, we must ask: why, suddenly, did the Duty Officer not feel the need to check the authenticity of this report, considering it's about THEIR OWN NETWORK, and it would've probably taken just one simple phone call to Corporate Communications? It's just too weird for the Duty Officer to suddenly forget to follow protocol just like that.
2. Why wasn't Edgar Cruz credited in the December 24th article as the source of the report?

Constant vigilance, Twilighters!
